Facing retirement, I decided I needed a hobby.  Why painting?  An unlikely choice for someone with so little art exposure or experience: an elementary school field trip to the Crocker Art Museum, a class in junior high with no paint, a college art history class, and a student year in France with its’ great museums and bins of Impressionist prints everywhere.

Nevertheless, I signed up for an adult ed studio art class and was told “just paint twenty-five paintings and you’ll get better”. Easier said than done, but many classes later, oil painting, rather than acrylics, is a hobby I never imagined I’d enjoy!
