Dwight Shackelford

Because my first serious foray into abstract painting dug so deep into my psyche, that is my view of where abstraction is supposed to come from. The Surrealists carved this trail, and the abstract expressionists furthered it.  The hurdles are, how do I express myself when I'm not transferring a real life scene onto the canvas (plein air painting)?   I'm keeping my eye trained on meaningful abstraction, and also trying to move my plein air work a little bit further from representational work.  Both sides will feed the other, if it goes true to form for how I've developed so far.
